Swimming Places Fourth At Brenau Invitational
Gainesville, Georgia- The Brenau swim team amassed 535.5 team points with five individual first place finishers to place fourth at the Brenau Invitational held at Francis Meadows Aquatic Center this past weekend.
Senior Lindsay Dowling secured two first place finishes in the 100 backstroke (1:00.26) and the 200 backstroke (2:11.29), while Nikoletta Alvanou also won the 200 breaststroke (2:28.61) and the 400 IM (4:46.35) to lead the Golden Tigers.
Both swimmers also had strong finishes in other individual events as Dowling placed fourth in the 100 butterfly (1:02.05) and Alvanou added fourth place finishes in both the 200 butterfly (2:17.41) and the 200 IM (2:16.21) as well as a seventh place finish in the 100 breaststroke (1:14.06).
Haley Bartoletta continued her strong freshman campaign by notching a first-place finish in the 200 butterfly (2:13.28). The Jefferson, Georgia native also placed fifth in the 200 IM in 2:18.32, sixth in the 400 IM (4:55.95) and eighth in the 100 breaststroke (1:15.55).
Junior Yanne Toussaint continued her strong season with third place finishes in both the 100 backstroke (1:01.22) and the 100 freestyle (54.77) and a fifth place nod in the 50 freestyle (25.45)
Freshman Bailey Ibarra earned eighth place honors in the 200 freestyle (2:06.94) and sophomore Ashlyn Steinbach took sixth place in both the 100 fly (1:02.24) and the 50 freestyle (25.47) and seventh in the 100 freestyle (56:94).
In the relay events, the Golden Tigers had a solid showing as well. Team members and finishes include:
- 200 medley relay team (Dowling, Toussaint, Bartoletta, Steinbach), second place, 1:51.06;
- 400 medley relay team (Dowling, Toussaint, Bartoletta, Steinbach), second place 4:09.20;
- 200 free relay team (Steinbach, Dowling, Haley Bernardo, Toussaint), fourth place, 1:43.11;
- 400 free relay team (Dowling, Ibarra, Steinbach, Alvanou), fourth place, 3:52.97;
- 800 free relay team (Toussaint, Ibarra, Bartoletta, Alvanou), fourth place, 8:22.88;
Defending national champions SCAD Savannah earned top team honors with 763 points, while Lindsay Wilson College placed second with 735 points. AAC member Milligan College edged out the Golden Tigers for third with 549.5 points, while fellow conference opponent Columbia College placed fifth with 349 points.
Brenau next hits the pool at the SCAD Invitiational in Savannah, Georgia from November 29-December 1st.
