Swimming Places Eighth at SCAD Invitational
Savannah, Georgia- The Brenau University swim team placed eighth in a highly competitive field at the SCAD Invitational this weekend.
Junior Yanne Toussaint had a strong meet with four individual top ten finishes. The standout garnered a pair of sixth place finishes in the 100 breaststroke (1:06.40) and the 50 freestyle (24.73), as well as an eighth place finish in the 200 breaststroke (2:28.08) and an eleventh place finish in the 50 freestyle (24.73). She also set the Brenau record in the 100 freestyle with a blistering time of 52.78.
Teammate Lindsay Dowling also earned a pair of third place finishes in the 100 backstroke (56.83) and the 200 backstroke (2:06.36).
Sophomore Nikoletta Alvanou posted a strong day as she raced to a tenth place finish in the 400 IM in 4:34.74 and an eighth place finish in the 200 breaststroke in 2:28.08.
Fellow sophomore Ashlyn Steinbach also had an outstanding meet with great finishes in both 100 breaststroke (1:06.95) and in the 200 breaststroke (2:30.60).
Freshman Haley Bartoletta swam a fast time of 2:12.66 in the 200 butterfly to capture seventeenth place out of twenty four competitiors.
Sophomore Meghan Mistric posted her first national cut with a 4:56.86 in the 400 IM.
In the relay events, Toussaint and Dowling joined Bailey Ibarra and Steinbach in the 200 freestyle relay to place eleventh out of twenty five teams in 1:42.09. Also, the 200 medley relay team of Dowling, Toussaint, Alvanou and Bartoletta took tenth place in 1:50.48, while the 400 medley relay team of Dowling, Steinbach, Toussaint and Alvanou added a ninth place nod in 3:59.98.
Brenau earned 137 total points to place eighth out of thirteen teams in the event. Wingate University took first place honors with 1077 points, while Lynn University (447 points) and Emory University (426.5) took the top three spots.
The Golden Tigers take a break for the remainder of December, and then return to the pool on January 11th at the Berry Invitational in Rome, Georgia.
