Swimming Places Third at Viking Classic
Mt. Berry, Georgia-The Brenau swim team used multiple top-ten finishes to place third at the 9th Annual Viking Classic, hosted by Berry University this past weekend.
The 200 medley relay team of Lindsay Dowling, Ashlyn Steinbach, Haley Bartoletta and Yanne Toussaint captured first place with a time of 1:53.37 to top a host of outstanding performances.
Members of the 200 medley relay team also had strong individual performances in multiple events over the weekend for the Golden Tigers.
Dowling earned the only individual first-place finish for Brenau with a win in the 100 backstroke. The Winston, Georgia senior took top honors by edging out Birmingham Southern's Mary Beth Ronne by only 0.4 seconds with a time of 1:01.51. She also earned a second place finish in the 200 backstroke (2:11.94) and a sixth place finish in the 100 butterfly (1:04.09).
Toussaint, a junior from Varsseveld, The Netherlands, placed third in the 100 backstroke in 1:02.23, fifth in the 200 freestyle in 2:03.91 and fourth in the 100 freestyle in 56.16.
Steinbach earned three top-ten finishes, including a pair of second place finishes in the Invitational. The sophomore notched second place honors in both the 100 butterfly (1:02.47) and the 100 Breaststroke (1:10.77) and an eight place finish in the 100 freestyle (57.04).
Freshman Haley Bartoletta also captured second place in the 200 butterfly (2:20.07) and added a fifth place performance in the 400 IM (5:03.70).
Nikoletta Alvanou, a sophomore from Thessaloniki, Greece, also had a strong weekend by earning a second place spot in the 400 IM (4:50.99), fifth place in the 100 breaststroke (1:13.41) and fourth place in the 200 breaststroke, (2:37.68).

Bailey Ibarra, sixth place, 200 freestyle, (2:05.76); tenth place, 100 freestyle (57.78);
Emma Jaczko, tenth place, 200 backstroke (2:47.87); ninth place, 200 breaststroke (3:15.63);
Meghan Mistric, ninth place, 400 IM (5:12.86); eighth place, 200 backstoke (2:23.93);
400 Freestyle Relay team of Ashlyn Steinbach, Bailey Ibarra, Lindsay Dowling and Yanne Toussaint, third place (3:49.90);
The Golden Tigers earned 287 total points in the meet to outpace fellow AAC member Point University (87 points). Birmingham Southern College captured top honors with 876 total points, while host Berry University was second with 603 points.
Brenau next hosts Converse College in a dual-meet on January 18th in Gainesville.
