Swimming Excels Against Columbia College and Converse College
Gainesville, Georgia- The Brenau swim team placed first against Columbia (S.C.) College and Converse (S.C.) College at a tri-meet on Saturday.
The Golden Tigers notched four first place finishes and a host of other top six finishes in route to the team victory.
Junior Nikoletta Alvanou notched two individual first place titles as she won the 200 breaststroke title in 2:35.08 and the 400 IM in 4:52.81.
In the 50 freestyle, sophomore Bayley Blackmon captured first place in a time of 26.11, while Bailey Ibarra (27.76) and Chloe Ireland (28.53) placed sixth and seventh respectively. Blackmon also notched a second place finish in the 100 butterfly in 1:03.42.
Yanne Toussaint also earned a first place nod in the 100 backstroke in a time of 1:02.15.
Additionally, the 200 freestyle relay of te Velthuis, Bartoletta, Ibarra, Toussaint captured second place in 1:45.08, while the 400 medley relay team of Blackmon, Toussaint, Bartoletta, te Velthuis also placed second in 4:13.20.
Other top Brenau finishers include:
Meghan Mistric, fourth place, 100 backstroke, 1:10.32; fourth place, 400 IM, 5:19.75;
Haley Bartoletta, third place: 100 butterfly, 1:03.69;
Harmina te Velthuis, second place, 200 freestyle, 2:01.76;
The team next competes at the Emmanuel College quad meet in Franklin Springs, Ga. on January 24th and 25th.
