Swim Continues Competition at NAIA Nationals
Knoxville, Tennessee- The Brenau swim team had another solid day at the 2020 NAIA Swimming and Diving Championships as one relay and three individuals earned top ten finishes on Saturday.
The Golden Tigers relays continued their outstanding performances at the Championship as the 200 medley relay team of Bayley Blackmon, Yanne Toussaint, Haley Bartoletta and Hanne te Velthuis, notched a seventh place finish in 1:50.80. This was the third top-ten relay finish for the Golden Tigers of the week.
Individually, junior Nikoletta Alvanou led the way with a fifth-place performance in the 400 IM. Alvanou outtouched Keiser's Gaja Kristan by almost a full second to capture the squad's highest place of the afternoon.
Senior Yanne Toussaint also earned a seventh-place finish in the 200 freestyle. Toussaint, a native of Varsseveld, The Netherlands, raced to a time of 59:05 to notch her second top-ten finish of the day after helping the 200 relay squad earlier in the day.
Two newcomers also continued their strong performances at the national championships as freshman Hanne te Velthuis and sophomore Bayley Blackmon each had good individual showings. te Velthuis raced to a time of 1:55.65 to take 10th place in the 200 freestyle, while Blackmon was 16th in the 100 fly in 1:00.36.
Brenau sits in seventh place overall with 144 points, while SCAD-Savannah tops the team standings with 511.5 points. Keiser University (418), University of Cumberlands (267), Olivet Nazarene (205) and Life University (166) round out the top five spots.
