Swimming Places Seventh at 2020 NAIA National Championships
Knoxville, Tennessee- The Brenau swim team used another excellent relay performance to help the team finish seventh overall at the 2020 NAIA Swimming and Diving Championships this past weekend.
Bayley Blackmon, Bailey Ibarra, Yanne Toussaint and Hanne te Velthuis combined to capture fifth place in the 400 freestyle relay in 3:34.13. The performance secured the team's third top-ten relay finish of the championships, which included an earlier eighth place finish in the 400 medley relay and a seventh place finish in the 200 medley relay.
Individually, the Golden Tigers had a pair of tenth place finishes as senior Yanne Toussaint and freshman Hanne te Velthuis each marked solid performances. Toussaint raced to a time of 2:07.32 in the 200 backstroke, while te Velthuis notched a time of 52.84 in the 100 freestyle. For te Velthuis, the finish marked the freshman's third individual top-ten finish at the championships after placing 10th in both the 50 freestyle and the 200 freestyle.
Sophomore Bayley Blackmon also took 16th place in the 200 backstroke in 2:17.81 and Bailey Ibarra added a 19th place finish in the 1650 free in 18:53.37.
In total, the team amassed 186.5 points to capture seventh place. SCAD won the championships with 767.5 points, while Keiser University (624), University of the Cumberlands (386), Olivet Nazarene (286) and Life University (219) were the top five team finishers.
