Swimming Starts Strong at 2022 AAC Championships
Kingsport, Tennessee- The Brenau swim team opened the 2022 Appalachian Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championships with a solid opening day of competition, including multiple top-five performances.
Senior Bayley Blackmon led the way with an individual first place finish in the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.62. The Dothan, Alabama native, who also won the event at the 2021 championships, defended her title in exciting fashion by narrowly out touching Milligan's Maggie Blazo by only 0.01 seconds.
Blackmon also helped two relays finish in the top three as she joined freshmen Cloe Barthelemy and Callie Edens and senior Haley Bartoletta to a second place finish in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:56.77.
Additionally, Blackmon and Edens, along with sophomores Melanie Wicht and Vivianne Fuentes, won third place in the 800 freestyle relay with a time of 9:20.22.
Other Golden Tigers individual performers include:
Cloe Barthelemy, fifth place, 50 freestyle, 25.25;
Haley Bartoletta, fourth place, 200 IM, 2:21.23;
Vivianne Fuentes, ninth place, 500 freestyle, 6:29.36;
Emily Giles, ninth place, 50 freestyle, 26.67;
Bailey Ibarra, third place, 500 freestyle, 5:35.47;
Melanie Wicht, fifth place, 500 freestyle, 5:49.89;
The Golden Tigers currently sit in second place after the opening day of competition with163 points. Milligan (Tenn) leads the women's competition with 241 points and West Virginia Tech sits in third place with 128 points.
