Swim Competes at Emmanuel Fall Invitational
Franklin Springs, Georgia- The Brenau swim team opened the 2022 season with a second place finish at the Emmanuel Fall Invitational this past weekend.
The squad had a solid showing at the invitational as the team posted several top five finishes in the early season event.
In the relay events, the 200 medley relay team of Callie Edens, Sophia Bell, Melanie Wicht and Mekai Smith placed third with a time of 2:08.32. The same group also competed in the 200 freestyle relay.
Individually, newcomer Sophia Bell had a nice showing with a third place finish in the 50 freestyle with a time of 28.89 and a fourth place finish in the 100 backstroke in 1:06.91.
Junior Melanie Wicht also showed well with a fourth place nod in the 100 butterfly and a fifth place finish in the 200 freestyle.
Sophomore Callie Edens and freshman Mekai Smith also added a pair of top five finishes each at the event. Edens earned fifth in the 100 butterfly (29.75) and the 100 backstroke (1:08.31), while Smith also added a pair of fifth place finishes in the 50 freestyle (29.75) and the 100 breaststroke (1:32.08).
Host Emmanuel captured top team honors, while Appalachian Athletic Conference rival Point (Ga.) University placed third.
The team takes a few weeks to continue training before hosting Point (Ga.) University and Piedmont (Ga.) University in a Tri-Meet on October 29th.
