Swimming Takes Fourth at Viking Classic Invitational
Rome Georgia- The Brenau swim team competed at the 13th Annual Viking Classic Invitational, hosted by Berry College this past weekend.
The Golden Tigers placed fourth and amassed 338.6 points at the four-team meet.
Junior Melanie Wicht captured top honors in the 1650 freestyle with a time of 21:13. She continued her strong all-around day with a second finish in the 500 freestyle in 6:08.32 and seventh place finish in the 50 breaststroke in 39.77. Wicht rounded out the meet with a eighth place finish in the 100 freestyle in 1:03.68 and a tenth place nod in the 50 butterfly in 29.98
Sophomore Calli Edens was fifth in the 200 IM in 2:38.14 and sixth in the 50 backstroke in 33.19. The Calhoun, Ga. native also raced to a time of 2:31 in the 200 backstroke to place seventh and was also 14th in the 100 IM (1:14.06) and 17th place in the 50 butterfly (32.11).
Freshman Mekai Smith also added a pair of top-ten finishes with a fourth place spot in the 200 breaststroke in 3:19.87 and a sixth place finish in the 50 freestyle in 28.12. She capped off the meet with a ninth place finish in the 50 breaststroke in 40.84 and a 13th place finish in the 100 freestyle.
Life (Ga.) University captured top team honors with 418.2 points, while host Berry (Ga.) University and conference rival Point (Ga.) University rounded out the top three team finishers.
Brenau next competes at Emmanuel (Ga.) College on Sunday January 22nd.
