Montgomery, AL- Lyn See Choo and Kate Mazackova defeated Kannesaw State's Palinder and Swindell 8-2 to claim the doubles title in the Blue Gray Invitational hosted by AUM on Saturday. Strong net play and service returns were key in this impressive victory for the Tigers pair.In other action, Jolene Wong and Eline Nagels fought hard but went down to AUM's team of Sienkob and Byrd of AUM 8-1 in the consolation final. Choo also advanced to the singles final in her flight with a tough win over Romeo of UAB 6-4, 6-3, but fell to Katie Welch of the University of South Alabama in a highly competitive match, 6-4, 6-4. She actually led 4-1 in the second set, but a mental letdown allowed Welch back in the match. Freshman Eline Nagels got a taste of college tennis losing to AUM's Sienkob 6-0, 6-2 and Wong never really got going in her match, losing to Cruise of Southern Illinois 6-1, 6-0. Suffering from fatigue and blisters on both feet, Mazackova showed the Tigers fighting spirit to come back from 5-3 down in the first set to defeat Holton of Kennesaw 7-6, 6-3. In the final, she face AUM All American Tereza Veverkova, who took the match with relative ease. "Overall, the play of our team was very impressive, reaching four finals and coming away with the doubles title," said Coach Gordon Leslie. Brenau will compete in the Central Alabama Invitational of October 9-10 in their next action.
