Mobile, AL- Lyn See Choo and Kate Mazackova finished fifth at the ITA (International Tennis Association) NAIA Small College Championships today by defeating Juliana Costa and Marcela Santos from Bethel, IN 7-6, 7-6. This tournament features the winners from eight regions throughout the country, and the Brenau pair defeated two different teams from Auburn Montgomery two weeks ago. The championships are presented by the United States Tennis Association and were hosted by the Copeland-Cox Tennis Center, the world's largest public tennis facility. The Tigers twosome were matched up with the #1 seeded Katia Sabate and Vanessa Heroux from Fresno Pacific, CA in the first round and were defeated 6-0, 6-4. They came back in the consolation round to win over Nikki Chambers and Tanya Ratana of William Jewell, MO 6-1, 4-6, 1-0 (5). Choo and Mazackova were actually down 5-3 in the first set before rallying to take the set in a tie-breaker. The second set was close all the way before the Brenau pair took command of the tie-breaker with some aggressive net play. "It was unfortunate that we were matched up with the #1 seed in the first round because we got stronger as the tournament progressed. Our doubles play has always been a strong point of our teams, and this team is one of the best." said Coach Gordon Leslie. "I was also very proud of our wins over the AUM doubles teams in regional competition."
