NCAA III Emory Defeats Brenau in Tennis

Gainesville, Ga - The Brenau Golden Tigers took on the 3rd best team in NCAA DIII, Emory University, this afternoon and came up short 7-2. Although Brenau had a solid performance in doubles, the Tigers were not able to hold Emory and lost all three doubles by the scores of 8-3 (Doubles No. 1), 8-4 (No. 2), and 8-4 (No. 3).
In singles,the home team continued playing at a high level and the results were more impressive. Liubov Orlova gave Brenau a point at No. 4 singles when she defeated Zahra Dawson 7-5, 6-0. The second point for the Tigers came on court No. 1. Junior Lyn See Choo had a long and tough first set and defeated Gabrielle Clark 7-6 (5), 6-3. Junior Hannah Thompson had an impressive start in singles, winning the first set 6-0. However, she was unable to maintain her momentum and lost to Lorne McManigle 0-6, 6-1, 6-3.
Emory's other three wins came at No. 2, No. 5 and No. 6. Kate Mazackova lost to Jordan Wylie at No. 2 6-3, 6-1. Taylor Brandt defeated Eline Nagels 6-2, 6-2 and Nelli Martirosyan dropped the No. 6 singles against Brenna Kelly 6-3, 6-1.
Brenau is now 1-2 on the season and up next for the Golden Tigers is Emmanuel College in the first conference match of the season. The match is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 25th at 3 pm in Gainesville.
