Golden Tigers Net Win over Jaguars

The Brenau tennis team kicked off the 2012 season this morning with an exhibition match and ultimately the defeat of the visiting Jaguars of Georgia Perimeter College. Although ranked #6 in the NAIA in the pre-season rating, the Golden Tigers knew they had a tough challenge ahead of them, as they faced GPC, ranked #4 in the pre-season rating for Junior Colleges (NJCAA).
The match started well for the Tigers as they quickly swept all three doubles. Freshman Theresa Neumeyr and Tiffany de Almeida started their careers with a quick win at doubles #3 against Krpo/Andry 8-1. Senior NAIA All-American, Lyn See Choo, paired up with freshman Maria Perdomo-Medina to give Brenau a 2-0 lead, winning at the #1 spot 8-0 against the 3rd ranked NJCAA doubles team of Dahbi/Amen from GPC. Senior Hannah Thompson and junior Eline Nagels, sealed doubles play with a victory over Mayou/Boyd by the score of 8-2 at doubles #2.
In singles, Tiffany de Almeida and Theresa Neumeyr clinched the victory for Brenau winning at #5 and #6, respectively, by the same score 6-0, 6-1. GPC took two points at singles #1 and #3. At #1 singles, Maria Perdomo-Medina lost to Salma Dahbi, ranked #4 in the NJCAA ranking, 6-2, 6-2. On court #3, Hannah Thompson lost to #20 ranked NJCAA player, India Amen, 6-3, 6-2. The other two points for the Golden Tigers came from singles #2 and #4. Lyn See Choo defeated Sadia Mayou, #13 ranked NJCAA player, 6-1, 6-3, while Eline Nagels took singles #4 against Asia Boyd without dropping a game, 6-0, 6-0.
The Golden Tigers return to the courts next Saturday, February 11th when they travel to Macon, GA to play against NCAA Division I Mercer University. Match time is scheduled for 2pm.
