Golden Tigers Face Tough SSAC Test in Rome
The Lady Hawks gained the edge right away with Laurent/Gaborit taking down the Brenau duo of Choo/Thompson 8-1 at doubles No. 1. Brenau tied the match after Neumeyr/Moniz defeated Gallard/Beltrando 8-5 on court No. 3. The deciding doubles match on court No. 2 turned into a battle. Freshman Maria Perdomo-Medina and junior Eline Nagels showed resilience as they rallied back from a 0-6 deficit to defeat Vetter/Holton 9-8 (4).
Taking the momentum from doubles, Golden Tiger Maria Perdomo-Medina quickly gave Brenau the third point by winning on court No. 2 against Margot Vetter 6-2, 6-0. The Lady Hawks took another point at singles No. 6 where Alicia Gallard defeated Tiffany de Almeida 6-3, 6-2. Senior Hannah Thompson increased the Brenau lead to 4-2 as she defeated Aurore Beltrando 6-1, 6-1 in singles No. 4. Freshman Theresa Neumeyr clinched the Golden Tiger victory taking down Shorter's Aurelie Gaborit 6-4, 6-2 at the No. 3 match. Eline Nagels improved the Brenau score to 6-2 as she won on court No. 5 against Iesha Holton 6-2, 6-4. The final Lady Hawk point came at singles No. 1 where Golden Tiger Lyn See Choo fell to Candice Laurent in a very close match 6-4, 3-6, 11-9.
Brenau returns home after a long streak of away matches. On Sunday, March 25th the Golden Tigers will host Spelman College at the Smithgall Tennis Center in a non-conference match scheduled to begin at 3 pm.
