Tennis Beats #9 Ranked SCAD Savannah 5-4
The Brenau Golden Tigers tennis team won its second match of the season in spectacular fashion as they came from behind to defeat the NAIA #9 ranked SCAD Savannah Bees by the score of 5-4.
Brenau then lost the first set in 5 out of the 6 singles matches before settling down and playing with determination. SCAD took singles No. 2 and No. 4 to go up 4-1 in the overall score.
Eline Nagels (Antwerp, Belgium) gave Brenau the first singles point at the No. 5 spot.
Zalina Nazarova (Nalchik, Russia) had to fight 3 set poinst in the second set, when the score was 4-5 in games. She came back, won 3 games in a row to win the second set 7-5 and took the third set 6-1 to give Brenau the 3rd point.
Dominika Jasova (Kosice, Slovakia) was down 0-3 in the third set and won 6 straight games to win the match and tie the overall team score 4-4.
It came down to singles No. 6. freshman Sophie van Beijnum (Woerden, Netherlands) was 0-2 down and won 6 straight games to give Brenau a 5-4 win over SCAD.
"SCAD Savannah has a talented team and proved why they are in the top 10 and have the No. 1 doubles team in the NAIA" said Coach Ferreira. "But I wasn't exactly pleased with the way we played doubles today. Overall, it was a very exciting match to be a part of. We were losing in 5 out of the 6 singles matches. To be honest, it wasn't looking promising at all. But to see the team continue to fight, support each other, believe in themselves, and find the strength to turn the match around was incredible. The cold weather wasn't enough to put out the last bit of fire the Golden Tigers. Our players deserve all the credit today."
