Brenau Tennis #2 in NAIA National Rankings

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - For the second straight poll, Auburn Montgomery (Ala.) sits atop the ranking in the 2013 NAIA Women's Tennis Coaches' Top 25, the National office announced Tuesday. The Warhawks received all 13 first-place votes for 343 points to secure the top spot.
Auburn Montgomery is 2-1 on the season, as they have defeated Emmanuel (Ga.), 9-0, and then-No. 21 Martin Methodist, 9-0. The Warhawks' only loss of the season came to NCAA Division II West Florida, 6-3.
Moving up one spot to No. 2 is Brenau (Ga.) with 332 points. The Golden Tigers are 3-0 this spring with wins over then-No. 9 SCAD Savannah (Ga.), 5-4, NCAA Division II Young Harris (Ga.), 6-3, and NCAA Division II North Georgia College & State, 8-1.
Jumping into the top five this week is No. 3 SCAD Savannah (Ga.) notching 315 points. SCAD Savannah makes the biggest jump this week as they moved from No. 9 to No. 3. The Bees are 2-1 on the season with wings over Coastal Georgia and NCAA Division II Shorter (Ga.).
Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) comes in at No. 4 tallying 308 points, while No. 5 Westmont (Calif.) rounds out the top five with 299 points.
No teams joined or fell out of the Top 25 this week.
Twelve of the 13 conferences/independents/unaffiliated groupings are represented in the poll with the Southern States Athletic Conference leading all leagues with five Top 25 members: Auburn Montgomery, Brenau, No. 7 William Carey (Miss.), No. 15 Lee (Tenn.) and No. 22 Belhaven (Miss.).
The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences/independents/unaffiliated groupings. The second regular-season poll will be announced on March. 5.
Notes: (All information as of the 2000 season) Auburn Montgomery (Ala.) pushed its NAIA-leading all-time No. 1 appearances to 69 ... Brenau (Ga.) is next closest with 10 No. 1 rankings, followed by former-NAIA member Fresno Pacific (Calif.) with eight, former- NAIA member Shorter (Ga.) with three and Northwood (Fla.) with two ... Auburn Montgomery topped each poll from Feb. 11, 2004, to May 1, 2010, a span of 47-straight No. 1 rankings, which is an NAIA record ... The next closest streak is just eight by Fresno Pacific, which garnered the top selection in all eight polls in 2011 ... Northwood gained its only two No. 1 rankings in school history in 2003 when it went on to win the national championship ... Auburn Montgomery has been ranked in the top five since, Feb. 11, 2004.
