Tigers Earn Shutout Over Blazers

After a lengthy absence from the court due to inclement weather, the NAIA #1 ranked Brenau Golden Tigers Tennis team shutout NAIA #23 Belhaven University 9-0 in a Friday afternoon home match.

After a sweep of doubles play, #24 ranked Maria Perdoma Medina (Canary Island, Spain) won her match 6-0,6-0, while #3 ranked Dominika Jasova (Kosice, Slovakia) defeated her opponent to clinch the victory.

"The rain over the last couple of weeks kept us from competing in 12 days. I thought we would be a little rusty in the beginning of the match today, but that wasn't the case," said Coach Andre Ferreira. "With the exception of a few moments here and there, I thought we had a good performance. It was an important match to get the team ready for a few exciting opponents next week."

Coach Ferreira said that although his entire team played well, he praised junior Zalina Nazarova (Nalchik, Russia) and sophomore Medina for their individual play, saying "They [Nazarova and Medina] had notably outstanding performances today with both only dropping one game each throughout the day."

The win gave Brenau their ninth victory of the year and their fourth win over a ranked opponent this season.
