Golden Tiger Tennis Advances in ITA
On the first two days of the International Tennis Association (ITA) Championships, the Brenau Golden Tigers tennis team had an outstanding showing as two singles players and one doubles team advanced to the semifinals.
In women's singles play, #6 seed Maria Perdomo-Medina (Canary Island, Spain) won three matches to advance to the semifinals, including a victory versus #3 seed and # 6 nationally-ranked Kourtney Howell from host Xavier University. Perdomo-Medina will face the #1 seed and #1 nationally-ranked Jade Curtis from Auburn-Montgomery University.
#2 seed Dominika Jasova (Kosice, Slovakia) won her first three matches, including a "luck of the draw" match versus fellow Golden Tiger, Zalina Nazarova (Nalchik, Russia) in the quarterfinals to advance to the semifinals also. Jasova will face #5 seed Brion Flowers from Xavier University in the semifinals.
Snezhana Kiselova won her first round match, 6-0, 6-0, but fell in the round of 32. Stephanie Moniz (London, England) also won her first match, 6-0, 6-0, but lost in the round of 16. Kelley Cohron (Buford, GA) lost her round of 32 match in straight sets.
In doubles play, the #3 seeded team of Jasova and Perdomo-Medina will face the #2 seed of Curtis and Chanel Cunningham from Auburn-Montgomery University in the semifinals.
The singles winner and doubles winners will automatically advance to the ITA Small College Nationals, held in Fort Myers, FL, October 10-13, 2013.
