Huskies Slip Past Golden Tigers

The #5 Brenau Golden Tigers tennis team continued its rigorous non-conference schedule, falling to NCAA Division I Northern Illinois University 6-1 on Monday.

In the past week, Brenau has faced two NCAA Division I teams and the #2 ranked NAIA team in preparation for the Southern States Athletic Conference play.

Against Northern Illinois, the Golden Tigers lost the opening #3 doubles match, but evened the score as Maria Perdomo and Stephanie Moniz defeated Isle Pacheco and Mary Malkin by a score of 8-2. However, the #1 team of Dominika Jasova and Zalina Nazarova lost their match versus Nelle Youel and Arantza de la Torre to end doubles play. Per NCAA Division I rules, the team that wins doubles play secures a 1-0 lead going into singles play.

In singles play, the Golden Tigers competed hard, but were unable to capture any of the three matches to give the victory to Northern Illinois. #2 Maria Perdomo gave Brenau their lone win with a 7-5, 6-2 win over Haley Dekkinga.
