Tennis Rolls Past Dalton State
On Campus Kids Day, the #7 Brenau University defeated Dalton State (Ga.) 8-1 at the Smithgall Tennis Center on Tuesday.
As host to Campus Kids Day, a United States Tennis Association initiative, the Golden Tigers hosted about 30 young people ages 10 and under to serves as ball kids and take part in a tennis clinic before the start of the match.
The Golden Tigers opened their match with wins at #1 and #3 doubles, but lost a close match at #2 doubles as the team of Maria Perdomo Medina and Valeria Savina fell to Laura Winter and Chelsea Powell 8-5.
Entering singles play, the Golden Tigers found their stride as #1 Dominika Jasova dominated her match in straight sets 6-0, 6-0, while Perdomo easily won her #2 match 6-1, 6-1 at #3 singles, Zalina Nazarova clinched the match for the nationally ranked Golden Tigers with a 6-2, 6-0 victory.
Stephanie Moniz, Valeria Savina and Kelley Cohron each won their respective matches in straight sets to complete the sweep in singles play.
