Tennis Loses Close Match To Georgia Perimeter
On International Tennis Day, the Brenau Golden Tigers lost a close 5-4 match to Georgia Perimeter College at the Smithgall Tennis Complex.
In doubles play, #1 team of Dominika Jasova and Zalina Nazarova and the #3 team of Kelly Cohron and Valeria Savina won their respective matches to take a 2-1 lead into singles play.
Georgia Perimeter quickly regained the lead, winning #4, #2 and #3 matches to give the Jaguars a 4-2 lead. Having to win the final three matches to capture the victory, the Golden Tigers started a comeback as Cohron won her #5 match over Eduarda Marins 6-1, 6-3. Jasova, facing a strong opponent in Niriantsa Rasolomalala, lost the first set 3-6, but rallied to win the final two sets, 6-1, 6-4 to even the team scores at 4-4. However the rally was cut short as Snezhana Kiseleva fell short in the #6 match 7-5, 6-4.
"Today was a great turn out for International Tennis Day and having a large crowd was very enjoyable," said head coach Andre Ferreira. "Kelly (Cohron) had a great win at #5 and Dominika (Jasova) and Zalina (Nazarova) are playing very well in doubles play. I was also excited to see Dominika push her boundaries today and continue to fight and believe in herself to capture her win".
