Jasova Honored With Prestigious Ashe Award
Senior tennis player Dominika Jasova received the International Tennis Association (ITA)/Arthur Ashe, Jr. Sportsmanship and Leadership Award for her outstanding play, service and leadership. Jasova is the first Brenau University recipient of this honor.
"I really did not expect to be the Arthur Ashe Award Recipient this year, so I was thrilled and very happy," said Jasova. "I am so thankful to my coach and team for their support during those three years, as well as to all Brenau tennis supporters and community members".
The International Tennis Association (ITA)/Arthur Ashe, Jr. Sportsmanship and Leadership Award honors the memory of former tennis great Arthur Ashe, Jr. The award considers a player's tennis accomplishments, scholastic achievements and extracurricular endeavors.
A 2013 ITA All-American in singles, Jasova is currently ranked No. 7 in the ITA NAIA Singles Rankings, and No. 4 in doubles. She was the 2013 ITA Player to Watch and has an overall singles record of 52-24.
She is regarded as someone who leads by example and helps her teammates handle tough situations, both on and off the court. In addition to her 3.43 cumulative GPA, Jasova has been heavily involved in community service, spending her time on causes such as the Boys and Girls Club of Hall County, Habitat for Humanity, Hispanic Heritage and Rally for the Cure.
"We are really happy for Dominika," said head coach Andre Ferreira. "She is the complete package-athletics, academics and character. She is smart, driven, and genuinely cares about those around her. Although I wish she had a few more years of eligibility, I am looking forward to following her success beyond college."
Jasova will be honored during a special ceremony hosted by the US Tennis Association.
