#5 Tennis Sweeps Bethel and Martin Methodist
The #5 Brenau tennis team defeated Bethel (Tenn.) University 9-0 and Martin Methodist (Tenn.) University 8-1 on Friday in Dalton, Georgia to maintain their hold on second place in the Southern States Athletic Conference standings.
Against Bethel, the Golden Tigers swept both doubles and singles play in dominating fashion. In singles play, #2 Maria Perdomo won in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0 and #1 Fatyha Berjane clinched the win with a 6-1, 6-2 victory.
In the second match of the day, Brenau again earned wins in all three doubles matches to take a 3-0 lead. Because the Redhawks didn't play #6 singles, #5 Snezhana Kiseleva (SO/Naberezhnye Chelny, Russia) secured the match with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Ashlee Elkins.
"What a nice way to finish the conference regular season," said head coach Andre Ferreira. "We have a very strong conference, perhaps the strongest in the NAIA. I think our players deserve a lot of praise for their consistent performance during the season. Now it's time to get ready for the conference tournament in a few weeks."
Brenau (10-3, 9-1 SSAC) next hosts non-conference opponent Emmanuel College on Senior Day on April 3rd at 2:00 pm at the Smithgall Tennis Complex.
