Tennis Falls in SSAC Semifinals
At the 2015 Southern States Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Championships, the No. 2-seeded Brenau tennis team fell to the No. 3-seeded William Carey (Miss.) College 5-3 in Mobile, Alabama.
The Golden Tigers started the match with a win as the team of Fatyha Berjane and Patricia Recalde won 8-2 at #1 doubles. Brenau extended their lead to 2-1 after doubles play as the #2 team of Maria Perdomo and Paula Rives cruised to an 8-1 victory. However, the rain interrupted singles play and the matches were postponed until Sunday morning.
On Sunday morning, Perdomo increased the Brenau lead to 3-1 with a dominating 6-2, 6-0 win. However the good fortunes reversed as the Crusaders swept matches at 1, 4, 5 and 6 to secure a come from behind 5-3 team win and advance to the conference finals.
"It was remarkable to see the excitement and disappointment all mixed together in these matches," said head coach Andre Ferreira. "We will go back to Brenau and prepare for final exams, then get back to our intense training to prepare for the NAIA National Tournament."
Brenau will compete at the NAIA National Championships beginning on May 12th at the Mobile Tennis Center in Mobile, Alabama.
