Perdomo-Medina Honored by ITA
The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced that Brenau tennis player Maria Perdomo-Medina was named the 2015 ITA Senior Women's Player of the Year for NAIA women's tennis in a release on Monday.
The lone senior on the Brenau tennis team, Perdomo-Medina is a two-time NAIA All-American and a four-time Southern States Athletic All-Conference player. The Canary Island, Spain native was undefeated in NAIA regular season play and is currently ranked #14 nationally.
An outstanding student, Perdomo-Medina is also an SSAC All-Academic team member and is actively involved in numerous community service and volunteer projects. Because of her active involvement in the community, Perdomo was also chosen as the southern regional Arthur Ashe Jr. Leadership and Sportsmanship Award winner for 2015.
"I am very happy for Maria and her journey from the struggles in her first year to becoming a captain on the team and one of the best players in the NAIA," said head coach Andre Ferreira. "I'm excited for her winning this award and for her bright future."
Perdomo-Medina now looks ahead to the NAIA National Championships in Mobile, Alabama where she hopes to lead her team to a national championship run.
The eighth-ranked Golden Tigers will take on the winner of the first round matchup between #9 Northwood (Fla.) University and #24 Northwestern (Iowa) University on May 13th at 1:30 pm central at the Mobile Tennis Center.
