#6 Tennis Increases Winning Streak to Six
The #6 Brenau tennis team notched two more wins by sweeping Bethel (Tenn.) University and Martin Methodist (Tenn.) College 9-0 in Southern States Athletic Conference play on Saturday in Dalton, Ga.
By virtue of Bethel only having five players, Brenau started the match with a 2-0 lead. The doubles teams of Fatyha Berjane and Paula Rives Palau easily won their match 8-1, while Patricia Recalde Pacua and Kirsten Dickins also cruised to an 8-0 victory to increase the Brenau lead to 4-0. Recalde Pacua then closed out the match at #4 singles with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Allison Smarsh.
In the afternoon match against Martin Methodist, the Golden Tigers' doubles team swept all three matches for a commanding 3-0 lead going into singles play.
#1 singles Fatyha Berjane continued the momentum with a win over Gema Bolado Yusta (4-1, retired), then Kirsten Dickins finished out the match with a 6-1, 6-1 rout of the Redhawks' Kimberly Anderson.
"We got lucky by missing the rain today, so we were able to wrap up a nice weekend in Dalton," said head coach Andre Ferreira. "I couldn't have asked for a better outcome. The team played focused, determined, and everything else fell into place."
The Golden Tigers, who are riding a six-game win streak, next travel to Dahlonega, Ga. on Friday to take on the University of North Georgia at 2 pm.
