Tennis Opens Play at the ITA Regionals
The Brenau tennis team opens their fall season at the International Tennis Association (ITA) Regional Championships this weekend at Georgia Gwinnett College in Lawrenceville.
Freshman Elizabeth Bielicki opens her Brenau tennis career against Georgia Gwinnett's Margarida Abreau on Friday at 11:30 am.
Sophomore Rebecca Pijls, the eighth overall seed, opens the 42 player tournament with a bye, but will face the winner of SCAD-Savannah's Valentina Lemos and Xavier's Lacee Ancar later on Friday at 4 pm.
Returning players Kirsten Dickins, Patricia Recalde, Paula Rives and Maya Mammetgulyyeva each have opening round byes, but will play their second round matches on Friday. Dickins will play at 12:30 pm, while Recalde and Mammetgulyyeva will each play at 1 pm. Rives will close out the second round singles matches for the Golden Tigers with a 3 pm contest.
In doubles play, all three of the Brenau teams will receive opening round byes.
The third overall seed of Mammetgulyyeva and Pijls will play their second round match on Friday at 8 am, while the pairing of Recalde and Rives will also open up play at 8 am. Dickins and Bielicki will also start doubles play at 8 am.
