Tennis Competes On Day One of ITA Regionals
In a fall season contest, members of the Brenau tennis team competed at the ITA South Regionals, hosted by Georgia Gwinnett College in Lawrenceville, Ga. on Friday.
Paula Rives had a successful opening round, winning her round match against SCAD-Atlanta's Madleyn Homan 6-2, 6-1. The Barcelona native will now face the top seeded Mariah Plauth (University of Mobile) in the round of 16 at 11 am on Saturday.
Fellow junior Patricia Recalde won her opening match with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over SCAD-Atlanta's Antonella Altamirano. However, Recalde fell in the round of 32 to host Georgia Gwinnett's Debora Scurt 6-2, 6-3.
Kirsten Dickins and Maya Mammetgulyyeva each competed in the opening round of singles play, but both lost their opening matches in close contests. Dickins fell 7-6(3), 6-4 to Reinhardt's Albane Queinnec, while Mammetgulyyeva pushed SCAD-Atlanta's Giulianna Hull (SCAD ATL), but came up just short by a score of 6-4, 2-6, 10-8.
Dickins and Mammetgulyyeva will also compete in the singles consolation draw on Saturday at 2 pm.
