Tennis Continues Strong Play at ITA Regionals
At the ITA Regional hosted by Georgia Gwinnett College, members of the Brenau tennis team had a strong showing in a competitive field on in Lawrenceville, Georgia.
In the main draw round of 16, Paula Rives fell to the top-ranked seed, Mariah Plauth from the University of Mobile 6-1, 6-0. However, Maya Mammetgulyyeva and Kirsten Dickins advanced in the consolation draw as each won both their round of 16 and quarterfinal matches to advance to the consolation draw semifinals on Sunday.
In the round of 16 consolation matches, Mammetgulyyeva overwhelmed Reinhardt's Jamie Lunceford 8-0, and then eased past Esther de Miguel from Point University 8-5.
Dickins rolled in her first match 8-0 over Brewton Parker's Reagan Christol and then defeated Point University's Luz Padilla 8-3 in the semifinals.
On Sunday, both players will play at in the consolation semifinals at 10 am eastern as Mammetgulyyeva faces Samantha Dearing (Reinhardt), and Dickins takes on Sofia Guerra (SCAD-A).
