Tennis Rolls Past Columbia in AAC Opener
The #20 Brenau tennis team opened Appalachian Athletic Conference play with a dominating 9-0 win over Columbia (SC) College on Sunday in Gainesville.
Due to inclement weather, the contest was held in the indoor facility at the Lessie Smithgall Tennis Center and was played as an eight-game pro-set format for all matches.
The Golden Tigers swept the visiting Koalas in doubles play as the #1 team of Peeraya Charoensirisutthikul and Maya Mammetgulyyeva rolled to an 8-1 win over Andrea Demitrijevich and Madyson Murphy. The #2 team of Patricia Recalde and Paula Rives also won 8-1 and the #3 team of Rebecca Pijls and Valentina Pabon earned an 8-0 win to sweep doubles for the home team
In singles play, Charoensirisutthikul overwhelmed Demitrijevich 8-1 at #1 singles, and then Recalde closed out the match with an 8-0 shutout win over Murphy.
Brenau continues their tough early season slate when the team travels to Macon to face #17 Middle Georgia State on Monday at 1 pm.
