Tennis Competes Against Furman University
The #16 Brenau tennis team continued their grueling non-conference schedule with a 7-0 loss to NCAA Division I Furman (SC) University on Wednesday in Greenville.
Playing by NCAA Division I rules, doubles matches are worth only one point toward the overall score, combined with six points for the six singles matches for a seven-point total maximum score.
The Golden Tigers competed well against the Paladins in doubles play as each of the three pairings came up short in their matchups.
In singles competition, Brenau's Paula Rives lost 6-0, 6-2 to Carol Kerman, then Maya Mammetgulyyeva fell to the Paladins' Danni Vines 6-0, 6-0 at #3 singles. At #1 singles, Peeraya Charoensirisutthikul lost a competitive 6-3, 6-1 match to Katarina Kozarov to secure the match for the host squad.
"We are always thankful for the opportunity to play Furman," said head coach Andre Ferreira. "These experiences give myself and our team an opportunity to see and learn from a top level program."
Brenau (5-6 overall, 3-0 AAC) next takes on Tennessee Wesleyan in an Appalachian Athletic Conference matchup on Saturday in Athens, Tennessee.
