Tennis Defeats Point; Remains Undefeated in AAC Play
In a cold and windy afternoon matchup, the #16 Brenau tennis team defeated Point (Ga.) University in Appalachian Athletic Conference play on Sunday in Gainesville.
After a clean sweep in doubles play, #6 singles player Kirsten Dickins bested the Skyhawk's Ema Cohen, 6-0, 6-1 for the first individual victory. Shortly after Dickins' victory, #3 singles player Maya Mammetgulyyeva clinched the match with a straight set win over Madison Marter, 6-0, 6-1. The remaining Golden Tigers won their matches to complete a 9-0 win and clinch the squad's seventh win of the season.
The victory kept Brenau undefeated in conference play and one game ahead of SCAD-Atlanta in the conference standings.
"Point is a much improved team and their matches were closer than scores may indicate," said head coach Andre Ferreira. "Our girls were pushed and responded well to the pressure. It was a nice win and it shows we are moving in the right direction."
Brenau (7-6 overall, 5-0 AAC) next travels to Bluefield (Va.) College on Friday for a 10 am conference match.
