Tennis Players Receive Individual Postseason Honors
Members of the Brenau University women's tennis team were honored by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) for their athletic and academic performances during the 2018 season.
After posting a perfect 9-0 conference record, and capturing both the AAC Regular Season and Tournament Championships, the team capped off a stellar 2018 season with four national individual honors.
In her inaugural season as a Golden Tiger, Peeraya Charoensirisutthikul was selected as a 2018 NAIA Women's Tennis First-Team All-American. The freshman, who was also honored as both the 2018 Appalachian Athletic Conference Player and Freshman of the Year, was ranked #26 in the NAIA and posted a 10-8 record in singles play.
Additionally, seniors Patricia Recalde Pacua and Paula Rives Palau and junior Rebecca Pijls each were recognized as 2018 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athletes for their academic achievements.
"These are top NAIA awards and I'm very proud of our team," said head coach Andre Ferreira. "It's been a phenomenal season on and off the tennis courts. The awards are simply a consequence of their efforts throughout the year. It's a bittersweet feeling now that our season is over. The group built something really special and most of the credit goes to our players. They learned how to work together, focused on the common goals, and played for each other. I couldn't ask for anything else."
Each scholar-athlete award winner must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and have attended the institution for two full years as a non-transfer or one full year as a transfer.
