Tennis Overwhelms Short-Handed Reinhardt 9-0
Waleska, Ga.- The #12 Brenau tennis team swept conference opponent Reinhardt University (1-8 overall, 1-2 AAC) on Friday in Waleska.
Brenau captured the first two doubles matches as the pairing of Peeraya Charoensirisutthikul and Pijls defeated Alexandra Cuello and Albane Queinnec, 8-2 and Kirsten Dickins and Evelin Gouveia rolled past Taylor Nelson and Majenta Marcinkowski , 8-0. The host Eagles forfeited #3 doubles team due to injuries.
In singles play, Brenau won the first three matches as Goveia outlasted Queinnec, 6-1, 6-0, Valentina Pabon defeated Nelson, 6-2, 6-0 and Juana Zambrano clinched the match with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Cuello.
"Reinhardt has a talented team but unfortunately they have yet to catch a break with individual injuries this season," said head coach Andre Ferreira. "On the positive side, it allowed us to give some of our players an opportunity to move up in the singles line up. They rose up to the occasion which is an important sign that they can fill a different role and still be successful."
Brenau (7-6 overall, 6-0 AAC) next hosts Union College (7-2 overall, 5-0 AAC) in a crucial AAC match on Sunday at 1 pm.
