Tennis Defeats Indiana Wesleyan; Advances to NAIA Quarterfinals
Mobile, Alabama- The Brenau tennis team rolled past #8 Indiana Wesleyan University 5-2 in the second round of the 39th Annual NAIA Women's Tennis National Championships.
For the second consecutive match, the Golden Tigers doubles teams led the way as the team swept all three doubles competitions.
At #1 doubles, Peeraya Charoensirisutthikul and Rebecca Pijls defeated Elizabeth Bauss and Alex Mella 8-6, while at #2 doubles, Evelin Gouveia and Kirsten Dickins slipped past the pairing of Madelyn Bemisderfer and Thewuni Devaraja 8-6. Valentina Pabon and Juana Zambrano made it a sweep with an 8-6 victory over Marissa Klein and Laura Moore.
In singles play, the Wildcats won #5 singles as Devaraja defeated Gouveia 6-4,6-4 and Lena Golz won #4 singles over Kirsten Dickins 6-0, 6-4.
The Golden Tigers answered as Zambrano prevailed over Bemisderfer 6-3, 6-3 for a 4-2 team lead, then Charoensirisutthikul edged out Mella 7-5, 7-5 to clinch the victory.
Brenau advances to the quarterfinals to face top-seed Georgia Gwinnett College, which defeated #17 Westmont (Calif.) 5-0. Match time is 2 pm on Thursday.
