Indoor Track Opens with Solid Performance at Mondo Invitational
Winston-Salem, NC - Brenau track and field team opened their 2026 indoor season at the competitive Mondo College Invitational, facing a deep field of collegiate squads from across the Southeast. The Golden Tigers produced several strong individual and relay performances, while gaining valuable early-season experience against high-level competition.
In the first event of the meet, the Tigers' 4x800m relay team of Averie Akin, De'Nya Reynolds, Kendall Goetzman, and Paula Battermann set the pace by finishing 2nd place in a time of 10:33.84. Sophomore Taylor Knox picked up a 7th-place finish in the triple jump with a leap of 10.26m (33-8). Sophomore Madison Kitson picked up an 8th-place finish in the 200m dash. That time is currently the fastest in the Appalachian Athletic Conference.
Overall, the team had many solid performances, including13 AAC championship qualifying times and distances. The squad has the next couple of weeks off before returning to action at the Life U Superbowl Indoor/Outdoor meet on February 7th.
