Brenau Track Finishes 3rd at Emory Invitational
The Brenau Track and Field team continued their strong early season by finishing third out of twenty five teams at the Emory (Ga.) Invitational this past weekend.
The Golden Tigers scored 70.5 points, finishing behind NCAA Division I Kennesaw State and Hope (MI) University.
Leading the charge was Olamide Sokunbi, who finished first place overall in the 100 meter dash, setting a school record with a 12.19. Sokunbi added to her outstanding day with a third place finish in the 200 meter dash (26.03) and a seventh place in the triple jump (36'6.5") which also set a school record.
Also finishing first was the 4 x 400 Relay of Cheyenne Wells, Amber Curney, Anazjah Mayes and Deishane' Honeycutt, which also set a school record in 3:58.56.
Other top eight finishers include Brittany Aikens in the 10,000 meter run (fourth place, 40:07.62), Hunter Creswell in the Pole vault (3rd place, 10'4"), Dana Cole in the Discus (2nd place, 136' 10"), Deishane' Honeycutt in the 400 Hurdles (second place, 1:04.77) and 400 meter dash (fourth place, 57.88), Jasmine Jones in the High Jump (seventh place, 4'11.5" and Natalie Williams in the 5000 meter run (third place, 19:22.09)
"Our Golden Tigers competed extremely well in a very strong field of athletes," said head coach Rick Ludwig. "I am very pleased with our continued assault on our own record book and personal performances. This group likes to compete and win!"
The Golden Tigers continue their season on March 29th when they travel to Rome, Ga. for the Shorter Invitational.
