Track Shines In Dreary Conditions At Shorter
The Brenau Track and Field team endured terrible weather conditions to capture twelve top-ten finishes at the Shorter Invitational in Rome, Ga. on Saturday.
The 4 x 100 relay team of Ismaelle Occeus, Monika Nwajei, Deshane' Honeycutt and Olamide Sokunabi finished in fourth place with a time of 50.68.
Members of the relay team also showed well in individual events. Ismaelle Occeus placed fourth in Triple Jump, (35' 2") and fifth in Long Jump (16'6"), while teammate Nwajei finished seventh in the 400 meter dash with a time of 61.01. Honeycutt finished second out of thirteen runners in the 400 meter hurdles and third in the 400 meters (57.78) and Sokunabi captured seventh place out of 33 runners in the 100 meters in 12.89.
The Golden Tigers had several other strong performances, including Hunter Creswell, who finished in second place and set a new school record in Pole Vault (10'6.5"), Jasmine Jones, who finished fourth in the High Jump (5' 1.5"), Aubrey Fearnow, who finished in sixth place in the Shot Put (110'11"), Utami Ketchem who finished in seventh place in the 1500 Meter Run (5:11.29) and Natalie Williams who finished in sixth place in the 5000 meter dash (19:33.46).
"The team competed in miserable conditions with good results," said head coach Rick Ludwig. "I liked the way we were able to handle adversity and still compete well".
Brenau takes a short break from competition and will return on April 12th to run at the Oglethorpe (Ga.) Invitational.
