Track/Field Captures Second SSAC Championship!
For the second consecutive season the Brenau Track and Field team captured the SSAC Track and Field Championship, scoring 321.5 points to easily outpace second place Emmanuel (Ga.) College's 110 points.
The Golden Tigers used their talent and depth to finish first place in 14 of 21 events and score points in every event.
On day two, DeMichia Higgins won the 110 hurdles in 14.75 seconds, while Jasmine Jones and Deishane' Honeycutt finished fifth and seventh places respectively.
Dana Cole wrapped up her second title of the weekend as the sophomore captured first place in the Hammer Throw (33.59), while teammate Rebecca Riddle finished second (31.16). Fellow Golden Tigers, Devony Hemingway and Andrea Holloway also scored with fourth and eighth place finishes.
In the high jump, Jasmine Jones won with a leap of 1.62 meters, while Snowie Saunders (1.57m) and Devony Hemingway (1.47m) finished in 2nd and 8th places.
Aubrey Fearnow placed third in the Shot Put with a throw of 11.79 meters, while Devony Hemingway and Dana Cole tied for sixth place. Riddle also scored for the Golden Tigers with a tie for eighth place (9.85m).
In the triple jump, Brenau's superior depth was evident as Olamide Sokunbi captured second place while Ismaelle Occeus, Jasmine Steen and Jasmine Jones also scored with third, fourth and fifth place finishes.
Jasmine Ray continued the parade of first place finishers, capturing the 3000 meter Steeplechase title in 12:30.62, while teammate Tyana Luna and Anahi Ruiz finished fourth and eighth respectively.
In the 4 x 100 meter relay, the team of Ismaelle Occeus, Cheyenne Wells, Jasmine Steen and Olamide Sokunbi finished in second place, narrowly missing first place by 0.41 seconds.
Utami Ketchem added to the first place finishers, winning the 1500 run in 5:04:38, while Natalie Williams finished fifth in 5:24:87.
Deishane' Honeycutt added to her stellar weekend, winning the 400 meters in 57.83, while freshman Monika Nwajei added a sixth place finish.
Olamide Sokunbi set a new conference record in the 100 and 200 meters. The sophomore won the 100 meters 11.75, while blazing to a 24.85 finish in the 200 meters. Freshman Cheyenne Wells also added to her impressive debut with a fourth place finish in the 100 and a seventh place finish in the 200.
In the 800 meter run, a pair of Golden Tigers finished a close second and third respectively as Utami Ketchem and Jasmine Ray crossed the finish line in 2:29.11 and 2:29.70.
In the 400 hurdles, the Golden Tigers showed off their depth with four runners scoring points, led by Deishane' Honeycutt's first place finish.
A trio of Golden Tigers scored in the 5000 meters as Natalie Williams, Brittany Aikens and Sarah Saenz finished third, fourth and fifth respectively.
To cap off the meet, the team of Monika Nwajei, Anazjah Mayes, Amber Curney and Deishane' Honeycutt cruised to a first place win in the 4 x 400 relay.
