Sokunbi Named SSAC Track Athlete of the Week

Olamide Sokunbi of Brenau (Ga.) has been selected as the SSAC Women's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday. Sokunbi was chosen for her performance during the week of March 14-20.

Sokunbi, a sophomore for Brenau, bested the 70-runner field in the 100 meter dash at the Emory Invitational, hosted by NCAA Division III Emory (Ga.) on March 18 and 19 in Atlanta, Ga.

The Marietta, Ga., native put up a time of 11.80 to top her nearest competitor—Adrian Martin of NCAA Division II Lee (Tenn.)—by .08 seconds. Her time, which is the fastest in the SSAC this season, also hit the NAIA "A" qualifying standard.

With her NAIA "A" qualifying mark, Sokunbi punched her ticket to the 2016 NAIA Women's Outdoor Track & Field National Championships.
