Track Captures Fourth Straight SSAC Title
The Brenau track team won 11 total events to help secure their fourth consecutive Southern States Athletic Conference championship at Jaguar Track in Mobile, Alabama on Saturday.
The Golden Tigers amassed 249 points in a dominating performance to outpace second place Loyola (La.) University by 138 points. The Golden Tigers used their superior depth to flood the events and earn multiple scoring opportunities
In the field events, Dana Cole, Ayana Daniels and Aubrey Fearnow each captured individual titles to pace the Golden Tigers. Cole won her fourth straight discus title with a heave of 41.85m, while Daniels won the pole vault with a vault of 2.58m.
Aubrey Fearnow won two titles-capturing wins in the hammer (35.97m) and the shot put (11.15m) - as well as placing third in the discus (35.48m).
Other field event scorers include Anita Button (2nd place/pole vault), Ismaelle Occeus (3rd place/triple jump and 5th place/long jump), Sydney Haas (3rd place/shot put and 5th place/discus), Andrea Holloway (3rd place hammer and 4th place/shot put) and Kayla Mitchell (4th place/javelin).
In the track event, the Golden Tigers continued their domination winning five events and flooding the top eight with finishers.
Deishane' Honeycutt captured two individual titles as the Stone Mountain, Ga. native won both the 400 meters in 56.95 and the 400 meter hurdles in 1:05.29. Honeycutt also scored with a seventh place finish in the 100 meter hurdles (16.30). The 400 meter victory broke her own conference record and qualified her for the NAIA Nationals (B standard).
Olamide Sokunbi also notched multiple scoring finishes for the Golden Tigers. The senior won the triple jump (12.09m), finished second in the 100 meters (11.90), third in the 200 meters (25.30) and sixth in the long jump (5.29m).
Jasmine Ray also won an individual title in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of 12:24.70, while also garnering a runner up spot in the1500 meter run (5:02.44).
Additionally, three relays won two first place and one second place finishes to top off the Golden Tigers dominating weekend. The 4x400 team of Cheyenne Wells, Daniels, Anazjah Mayes and Honeycutt came from behind to win the event and qualify for the NAIA championships, while Honeycutt ran the lead leg on the first place 4x800 relay squad.
Honeycutt, who accounted for 29.5 points individually, teamed with Nia Griffin, Monika Nwajei and Jasmine Ray to win the 4 x 800, while the 4x100 squad of Honeycutt, Sokunbi, Wells and Occeus finished a mere .06 seconds behind William Carey (Miss.) University to capture second place.

Michelle Velazquez- 5th place, 5000 meter run (22:05.36);
Cheyenne Wells- 5th place, 100 meters (12.38); 4th place, 200 meters (25.35); 4th place, 100 meter hurdles (15.30);
William Carey (Miss.) placed third with 95 points, while Mobile (Ala.) (80 points), Dalton State (Ga.) (28 points), Bethel (Tenn.) (17 points) and Brewton Parker (Ga.) (1 point) rounded out the finishers.
