Three Track Athletes to Compete at NAIA Nationals
Three members of the SSAC Champion Brenau track and field team will compete at the 2017 NAIA Outdoor Track and Field Championships from May 25-27 at Mickey Miller Blackwell Stadium in Gulf Shores, Alabama.
Ismaelle Occeus, Sydney Romine and Cheyenne Wells each qualified for the championships and will represent the Golden Tigers at the meet next week.
For Occeus, this will be her first time competing as an individual at the national championships after previously running on the 4x100 relay team in 2016. The Lawrenceville, Georgia native will compete in the triple jump after placing second in the SSAC Championships with a leap of 11.66m.
Wells, who also paired with Occeus on the 4x100 relay team and also ran on the 4x400 team in 2016, will also be competing for the first time as an individual. The Sandy Springs, Ga. senior will run in the 100 hurdles after posting a 14.94 in the 100 hurdles at the conference meet.
Romine will compete at her first outdoor championships after a strong inaugural season for the Golden Tigers. The freshman from Jasper, Ga. will run the 100 hurdles after winning the SSAC crown in 14.81. She previously competed at the NAIA Indoor Championships in March in the 60 meter hurdles.
