Track Places Third at 2018 AAC Championships
The Brenau track and field team finished third at the 2018 Appalachian Athletic Conference this past weekend in Montreat, N.C.
Day two was highlighted by two standout performances as Ayana Daniels and Destiny Gaudlock each set new conference records. Daniels soared to a height of 3.05 meters to capture first place as the junior surpassed the 2017 record of 2.97 meters, which was set by Reanna Elswick from Bryan College.
Destiny Gaudlock also set a new meet record with her first place finish in the javelin. The freshman recorded a throw of 36.42 meters, which bested Tennessee Wesleyan's Rachel Lawhorn throw of 36.12 meters from 2016. Gaudlock also captured an eighth place finish in the triple jump with a leap of 10.03.
The 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams also earned a pair of second place finishes at the championships. The 4x100 relay of Myia Neal, Jasmine Reese, Gloria Clark and Tatiyana McClendon placed second in 49:29, while the 4x400 relay of Ayana Daniels, Deborah Ekeanyanwu, Kanyisola Anjorin and Nia Griffin also earned second place in 4:05.58.
The Golden Tigers had seven other top eight finishes on Saturday, including:
Nia Griffin, sixth place, 800 meter run, 2:25.91;
Chloe Ireland, second place, 5000 meter race walk, 41:01.23;
Deeanna Joseph, third place, 5000 meter race walk, 41:03.54;
Taylor Love, third place, pole vault, 2.75m;
Tatyiana McClendon, fourth place, triple jump, 10.50m; third place, javelin, 30.51m;
Jasmine Reese, eighth place, 200 meter dash, 26:27;
"We had some really outstanding performances," said head coach Bryon Kramer, "We set three conference records with Ayana Daniels in the pole vault, Destiny Gaudlock in the javelin and Myia Neal in the long jump, plus numerous personal records were set in the meet."
Tennessee Wesleyan captured the overall championship with 173 points, while Columbia College placed just ahead of the Golden Tigers to take second with 153.50 points. Milligan (102) and Truett-McConnell (83) rounded out the top five finishers.
