Track Leads on Day One of AAC Championships
Montreat, North Carolina- The Brenau University team amassed 100 points on day one of the 2019 Appalachian Athletic Conference championships to take the team lead going into the final day of competition.
The Golden Tigers captured its first individual championship as freshman Shatrice Dixon captured first place in the long jump with a leap of 5.48 meters.
Fellow freshman Shakera Thompson also had a strong opening performance, placing second in the 100 meters in 12.11 which broke the meet record of 12.14 which was set in 2007 by King College's Judy Johnson.
Junior Cameron Mims also had an outstanding showing with a pair of second place finishes in throwing events. The Athens, Ga. native placed second in both the shot put (12.35m) and the hammer throw (40.57m).
Also, the 4x800 relay team of Mikayla Dunn, Maya Dunn, Zoie Gardner and Nia Griffin earned third place in a time of 10:27.48;

The Golden Tigers go into the final day of competition with 100 points, while Union College (53 points) and Tennessee Wesleyan University (51) sit in second and third place respectively.
