Track and Field Announces 2019-20 Signing Class
The Brenau track and field program announces the signing of seven student-athletes to the 2019-2020 team.
Mitchel Alex, Jayda Burkett, Jasmin Jackson, Oluwatomisin John, Jailyn Kendrick, Keren Kapwadi, Adriahna Mirus and Kayijeah Victoria are the latest additions for Head Coach Byron Kramer to the reigning Appalachian Athletic Conference championship squad.
Alex, the daughter of Bamidele and Ujunwa Ajayi, is a graduate of Northview High School and a native of Johns Creek, Ga. As a standout athlete at Northview, Mitchel competed in both track and field and basketball and posted personal bests of 17'3 in the long jump and 35'09 in the triple jump. At Brenau, she plans on majoring in pre-Physical Therapy and will pursue an advanced degree in Physical Therapy in the future.
Burkett, the daughter of Jennifer Quisenberry and Jeremy Burkett, is a graduate of Union Grove High School in McDonough, Ga. Burkett will compete in the 100 and 400 hurdles, javelin and relay events. She will pursue a degree in nursing.
Jackson, the daughter of Cynthia and Patrick Jackson, was a multi-sport standout at Cedar Key High School in Cedar Key, Fla. During her high school career, Jackson received the Most Valuable Player awards for both the Cedar Key track and field and volleyball teams and was also an all-state basketball player. She was an honor roll student and FBLA president in high school and looks to major in business at Brenau. She will compete in the heptathlon, high jump and shot put and will also compete on the Golden Tigers basketball team.
John, the daughter of Modupe Folarin, is a graduate of Alexander High School in Douglasville, Ga. John will compete in the 100, 200 and 400 meters as well as the triple jump and plans on pursuing a nursing degree.
Kendrick, the daughter of Jennifer and Sean Kendrick, is a graduate of Chapel Hill High School in Temple, Ga. During her high school career, the standout competed in all throwing events and helped Chapel Hill high school win three consecutive state championships. Kendrick plans on majoring in nursing.
Kapwadi, the daughter of Ndaya Kapwadi, is a graduate of Northview High School and a native of Johns Creek, Ga. During her high school career, Kapwadi competed in both the 400 meters and the 300 hurdles. She plans on majoring in conflict resolution and legal studies at Brenau.
Mirus, the daughter of Tarrah and Jason Mirrus, is a graduate of Grayson High School in Grayson, Ga. During her prep career, Mirus was a well-rounded athlete that competed in track and field, softball and competitive gymnastics. A pole vaulter, Mirus also plans to pursue a degree in interior design at Brenau.
Victoria, a graduate of Vidalia High School, is a native of Vidalia, Ga. She is daughter of Demetria Victoria and was a standout thrower in both the shot put and discus. Victoria posted personal records of 32 feet in the shot put and 97 feet in the discus and will major in interior design at Brenau.
