Track and Field Receives Conference Recognition

Kingsport, Tennessee- Seven members of the Brenau track and field team received recognition from the Appalachian Athletic Conference for their academic achievements, the conference announced on Thursday.

Juniors Kanyisola Anjorin, Destiny Gaudlock and Bianca Orr and sophomores Bayley Blackmon, Xian Lopez and TyLeeah Maddox were each named as 2020 AAC All-Academic team members for their outstanding academic performances.

According to head coach Byron Kramer, "Our six Academic All-Conference athletes are also coincidentally among our hardest workers in our sport. This isn't surprising as the most necessary component for success in anything is effort! We are very proud of them!"

Sophomore Paola Benitez-Hernandez was also named as the Brenau Champions of Character recipient. Honorees are selected as the student-athletes that best model the NAIA's Five Core Values of integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship and servant leadership.

"Paola is very deserving of her Champions of Character award," said Kramer. "She exemplifies the high ideals for both Brenau University Track and Field and for the NAIA on an everyday basis. We are very proud of her as well."

To make the All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must carry a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.25 and be a sophomore, junior, senior, or graduate student.
