Dixon Garners All-American Honors at NAIA Nationals
Gulf Shores, Alabama- Junior Shatrice Dixon leapt 5.76 meters to capture NAIA All-American in the long jump and pace the Brenau track and field team at the 2021 NAIA Women's Track and Field Championships on Wednesday.
Dixon tied teammate Tamia Francis with her last jump at 5.76 meters (18-10 ¾ feet), and by virtue of scoring rules, won the tiebreaker due to the distance of her second longest jump of 5.75m, which edged Francis by 0.02m.
Dixon becomes the third All-American for the track team, following former Golden Tiger standouts Deishane' Honeycutt (2013-16) and Olamide Sokunbi (2012-2016). Honeycutt earned All-American honors with a sixth place finish in the 400 meter run in 2016, while Sokunbi placed second in the long jump and fifth in the 100 meters to etch her name in the record books at the same meet.
Additionally, Francis captured 10th in the 200 meter dash with a time of 24.28, which broke her previous school record of 24.41.
The 4x100 team of Francis, Myia Neal, Kiyah Pittmon and Tatyiana McClendon also earned a 15th place finish in 47.99.
