Mt. Vernon, GA- The Brenau volleyball team opened their conference season today with a three-game sweep of Brewton Parker to up their season record to 7-0 and 1-0 in SSAC play. In what has become a familiar pattern this season, this one was a team effort, spearheaded by the play of Senior Co-Captain Karen Green, who came up with 16 kills, nine digs and five aces in the match. She had plenty of help, however, as fellow captain Audra VanArsdale had 33 assists, nine digs, two kills and a block and Libero Maida Smajic had 10 receptions without an error and three digs. Alexis Arthur was steady again with eight kills, two digs and a block and Kelsey Aley had five kills, three blocks and two digs. Courtney Frady had a solid day with seven kills, three assists, two digs and a block, and Freshman Mekenna Cipres had 11 receptions, six digs, five aces and an assist. "As the season progresses, a familiar theme is emerging for us in that we find a way to recover from mistakes and make agressive plays when we need them. With each win, our mental toughness grows and we show more consistency," said Coach Meredith Matthews. The Tigers will try to make it eight straight when they travel to LaGrange on Monday.
