Brenau Cruises Past LaGrange in Three

LaGrange, GA- The wins continue to pile up as the Brenau Golden Tigers won their eighth straight without a loss, sailing past NCAA III LaGrange tonight 25-16, 25-11 and 25-15. In the last seven matches, the Tigers have won 21 games while losing just one. It was another team effort, with nine players making key contributions and Senior Co-Captain Audra VanArsdale gave a typical strong performance with 29 assists, eight digs, a block and an ace.The other two seniors were also significant as Maida Smajic came through with 19 digs and 12 receptions, and Karen Green had nine kills, 12 digs, seven receptions and a block. Alexis Arthur was her steady self with eight kills, four blocks and a dig and Meredith Hardin had 11 blocks and four kills. Kerry Abernathy (nine receptions and five digs), and the freshman trio of Macy Baugh (five kills and four blocks), Melissa Thornton (three kills, two blocks, a dig and an assist), and Mekenna Cipres (four digs) also played a part in the win. "We continue to play consistent, fundamental volleyball, although our focus early in games tonight was not what it should be. We pulled it together and finished off the games, so I am encouraged about that," commented Coach Meredith Matthews. The Tigers will travel to Columbia, SC on Wednesday night to try to extend the streak and pick up their second win in SSAC play.
