Berry Gets Past Brenau in Four

Gainesville, GA- The Berry Vikings ran their season record to 7-4 with a four-game win over the homestanding Brenau Golden Tigers (9-2, 1-1) tonight by scores of 25-23, 23-25, 25-21, and 25-20. It was a close match throughout and the Tigers could not close out the games to come up with the win. Senior Co-Captain Audra VanArsdale was outstanding once again with 36 assists, 10 digs, three kills and 2 blocks, in what has become a familiar pattern for the veteran player who has led the way all season. Coach Meredith Matthews called her play through the first 11 games outstanding. Freshman Melissa Thornton had her best outing of the season with 10 kills, three blocks and two assists and was "really drilling the ball" in the words of her coach. Maida Smajic was also solid with 28 receptions and 18 digs, as was Freshman setter MeKenna Cipres, who had nine receptions and 14 digs. Also contributing statistically were Alexis Arthur (six kills, two blocks and a dig), Kelsey Aley (seven kills, two dits and a block), and Karen Green (14 kills, and an assist). The Tigers will travel to Montgomery, AL on Thursday for a SSAC matchup with Faulkner.
